About the station
A radio station where children are in charge of the shows
The Rusty Haggis Community Radio is a not-for-profit community interest company based in Leicester.
What we do
We run radio workshops in schools and youth spaces. Young people plan, present and produce their own shows, and we put them on air. Between shows, the station plays music chosen for a young audience, including songs written and recorded by children in our workshops.
Where to hear us
We broadcast online, 24 hours a day, at therustyhaggis.co.uk. We are not on FM or DAB yet.
How we are run
As a community interest company, any money we make goes back into the station and our work with young people. Music on the station is licensed through PPL and PRS for Music.
Safeguarding
Children lead the shows. The adults around them stay responsible for keeping everyone safe, on air and off.
Before anything goes on air
- A parent or carer signs a consent and release form before a child's voice, words or music is broadcast or published.
- An adult listens to every show and every submission before broadcast.
- Children never need an account, log-in or email address with us. Their work reaches us through a parent, carer, teacher or youth worker.
In workshops
- A member of the school or group's own staff is present throughout every session.
- Our workshop leaders hold enhanced DBS checks. Confirm DBS wording — to confirm
If you are worried about a child
